Backflow FAQ's

Backflow and Cross Connection FAQ's

Does Global Water Resources provide testing services for backflow prevention assemblies?

No. All testing shall be conducted by a certified independent backflow tester. Global Water makes no representation on abilities, performance or quality of service for any certified backflow tester and highly recommends the customer confirms the qualifications of the certified tester.

Who can install, test and certify the backflow prevention assemblies and how much does it cost?

A backflow prevention assembly must be installed by a licensed plumber and tested by a certified backflow technician. The cost of the assembly, its installation, and testing varies, and will depend on the installation conditions, the size of the water service, and how much a backflow technician charges. Backflow prevention assembly installers and technicians can be obtained in the yellow pages or online under “Backflow Prevention Products and Services.” The assembly is installed at the owner’s expense. The property owner is encouraged to shop around and compare prices.

Where is the backflow prevention assembly installed?

On the customer’s side of the service connection usually a couple of feet from the meter.

Can the backflow prevention assembly be installed inside the meter pit?

No. Installation in the meter pit could compromise the function of the water meter.

What if my backflow prevention assembly gets stolen or needs repair?

It is the customer’s responsibility to replace and repair their assemblies. Contact the Global Water Resources Compliance Department and notify them of the situation. A time determination for replace/repair will be made and noted on the customer’s account.

What can I do to prevent theft?

Security containments are available and can be obtained from hardware stores, plumbing stores, plumbers and backflow technicians.

How do I know if I have a cross connection?

Certain conditions pose a greater threat for cross connections. A cross connection survey should be filled out and submitted to the Compliance Department. Upon receipt of the survey, you will be contacted for an on-site survey to determine if you meet the criteria for backflow prevention.
